Schedule For Lasik? How To Prepare For Surgery Day

If you've decided to have lasik surgery, you're going to joining millions who've already had the procedure performed. Lasik surgery is a great way to correct your vision and rid yourself of the need for prescription lenses. Your doctor will provide you with a list of instructions you should carry out prior to your surgery. However, there are still some things you'll need to do to help you avoid problems on surgery day.

Don't Wear Makeup

If you never leave the house without makeup, you'll need to make an exception on the day of your surgery. Your doctor will need your face to be clean, and your eyes to be makeup-free. Even trace elements of makeup can get into your eyes and cause surgical complications. To prevent problems, wash your face before going to bed on the night before your surgery. In the morning, wash your face again to make sure that every trace of makeup is removed from your face.

Choose Your Clothing Wisely

When it comes to dressing for surgery, you'll want to be comfortable. However, you'll also want to be lint-free. You're going to be changing into a surgical gown for the procedure, which means you'll be changing back into your normal clothes before heading home. If your clothes shed, you could end up with small fibers and lint in your eyes, which will cause serious irritation, and could lead to post-operative complications. Protect your eyes by choosing lint-free clothing for your surgical day.

Bring a Friend Along

On the day of your surgery, you're going to need to bring a friend along. Not only will you not be able to drive home after the procedure, but you're going to want some company while you wait. In most cases, your friend will be able to sit with you while you wait to go back for the procedure, and they'll be able to join you once you begin the recovery process. Your friend will also be able to pick up any prescriptions that your doctor might order for you.

Have a Pair of Sunglasses Ready

While you're preparing for your lasik procedure, don't forget to pick up a pair of sunglasses. You're going to need them during the recovery process, even if it's not particularly sunny out. Your sunglasses will protect your eyes against dust and pollen, which can irritate your eyes while you're recovering from lasik surgery, as well as the damaging effects of the sun.
